A winter quilt pattern as fresh as newly fallen snow.
A modern quilt inspired by nature from Heck Yes Sew Co.
Flake was inspired by spending long winter days playing in the Cascade Mountains near our home. As a family, we love spending the day together navigating snowshoe trails and sledding down hills. With it's classic snowflake design, the Flake Quilt is perfect to curl up with after a long, fun-filled, snowy winter day!
Here's a little look behind the scenes for this design: I tend to design square quilts because I'm drawn to the symmetry, but I know a lot of people love rectangle quilts, so I've been trying to add rectangular quilt options in my patterns. I was struggling to come up with a motif that would fit with the snowflake design so I brainstormed with my #quilthusband and he suggested some stripes which eventually evolved into the stripes in the corners of the Flake cover version pictured above. Thanks, Ryan!
The cover version was made using Art Gallery Fabrics ® Pure Solids in Magnetism and Creme de la Creme and is a twin size. It was longarmed by Emily Hoppe from So Sunny Quilts using the Sashiko Star pantograph.
I mentioned above that I tend to design square quilts, but after making this rectangular Flake quilt with all of its *long enough to cuddle up with under your chin and still extend all the way to cover your toes and keep them cozy* length, I may just be swayed to change to the rectangular quilts team.
I couldn't resist making the Flake throw version in a beautiful Sprout Wovens by Fableism greige color that just happens to be called Heather (which is also my first name for those who didn't know). I backed it with a plush blanket and it has become my family's go-to winter living room quilt. My 3 year old especially loves this one for building quilt forts and dens.
I wish you could feel how soft and cozy this quilt is!
Here's another throw size Flake Quilt made with Art Gallery Fabrics in Spruce and Creme de la Creme.
The Flake Quilt patterns comes with a mini size that would be perfect as a winter wall hanging or as throw pillows!
